Costs & inclusions

Your fee will be calculated according to your preferences regarding language classes, accommodation type and internship placement length.

For example, if you choose a four week intensive language course and accommodation in a four share apartment plus your un-paid internship for eight weeks, your fee to Student Placement Australia will be $3,950.

Longer language program components (and/or private and accelerated language programs) will cost more. Alternative accommodation (eg, single, twin or triple share apartments, villas and/or homestays) are also offered at variable increasing costs.

For example, a six week language study program plus a six week internship will cost up to $4000, plus accommodation costs of up to $250 per week according to your preferences.

* Accommodation
Yamasa has its own student housing within easy walking distance (10 - 15 mins) from the campus. There is no need to budget for public transport costs. The facility is located in quiet, safe residential areas with shops, restaurants and other facilities nearby.  There are studio apartments, larger apartments and dorm facilities. Homestay options are also available. Yamasa’s full-time housing office can assist with any changes you might like to implement during your program.

** Language Learning
The curriculum is intensive, with 23 classes per week. The curriculum focuses more on learning conversational skills than on academic Japanese. However, all students will need to work on their reading and writing skills to some extent. At higher levels, although furigana are supplied, students wil be expect to know a few kanji.  These higher level courses are taught entirely in Japanese. Romaji (western latin-alphabet) is not used in instruction.

*** Cultural program
In addition to the language learning at Yamasa, you will also have the opportunity to personally experience a wide range of cultural activities. These include Tea Ceremony, Ikebana, Kimono, O-Dori, etc.

What’s not included?

You’ll need to arrange and pay for your own flights to Japan and cover any passport/visa costs and incidental costs for personal items. Student Placement Australia uses and recommends STA Travel.

Payment Schedule

1. A $250 deposit is required when you submit your application.
2. A further $1000 is due when you are formally accepted.
3. The balance of the fee is due one month prior to your scheduled departure or when you receive confirmation of your placement (whichever is the sooner).

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations will only be accepted in writing and will be effective at the date received by Student Placement Australia Pty Ltd. Refunds will be made according to the following schedule:

1. If your application does not meet our basic eligibility criteria you will be refunded in full.
2. If you withdraw from the program:
• Before interview you will be refunded in full
• After interview but before acceptance you will be refunded in full less the $250 deposit
• After acceptance but before placement you will be refunded in full less A$500
• After placement but more than one month before commencement of the training course you will be refunded in full less A$750.
• After placement but less than one month before commencement of the training course you will be refunded in full less A$1000.
