Language
and Internship Japan
Your
Visa
Australians on the
Language and Internship
Japan program may
participate with a
tanki-taizai (tourist)
visa because the program
lasts for less than
3 months and you will
not be engaged in
paid employment. Read
about the Tourist
Visa here.
If, however, you
would like to remain
in Japan and keep
your options open
for paid employment
after the end of the
program period, you
might like to apply
for the Working Holiday
Visa. This must be
arranged prior to
arriving in Japan.
Read about the Working
Holiday Visa here.
Contact details
for Japanese diplomatic
authorities (consulates
and The Embassy) are
listed here.
Tourist Visa
In order to apply
for this visa, you
will need a “Letter
of Acceptance” that
will be provided to
you by Student Placement
Australia. Citizens
of countries other
than Australia may
need guarantors. Check
with the consulate
regarding whether
this applies to you.
The Tourist visa
is usually issued
for up to 90 days
and precludes the
holder from paid employment.
Depending on your
personal circumstances,
you may need to have
the Tourist Visa stamped
on your passport prior
to commencing your
journey to Japan.
However, it is OK
for some “tourists” to
arrive in Japan without
the visa stamp and
it will be stamped
upon your first port
of arrival in Japan.
Contact
the Consulate for
info.
Working Holiday
Visa
This visa is available
for citizens of Australia.
It can only be taken
once, is usually for
6 months and for people
under 30 years old.
You will need to apply
for this visa through
your local Japanese
Consulate and will
need to have a Letter
of Acceptance and Certificate
of Eligibility from
your future employer
(that is, from the
employer who has engaged
your services for after
the end of your Language
and Internship - Japan
program). You do not
require any document
from Student Placement
Australia to apply
for this visa. When
you come to Japan,
you are then free to
work or study as you
please.
