| Is teaching
experience necessary to participate in Teach in China or
Thailand? |
No, but an interest in teaching is necessary. You will
receive some training in the theories and practical application
of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) during your
orientation prior to the start of the program.
|
| Can
I request a teaching assignment in the city of my choice? |
You may submit a preference of teaching location but SPA
cannot guarantee that it will be able to honour your request.
Please keep in mind that flexibility is key to having an enjoyable
experience. You should also be aware that fewer teaching assignments
are available in large international cities like Beijing and
Shanghai, or in the cities and towns in the southern provinces
of Thailand.

| Where
in China do you offer placements? |
Teach in China participants are located throughout China
although no placements are currently offered in Hong Kong,
Taiwan or Tibet.
|
| Can
I be placed at the same institution as a friend also participating
on the program? |
SPA will make every effort to place travel companions within
the same institution or city if requested, but it cannot be
guaranteed. Special concessions are often made for married
couples and family members.

| Can
I bring my children or spouse with me when I teach in Thailand
or China? What about my girlfriend or boyfriend? |
Program participants may bring their spouse or children
with them as long as they are able to obtain all necessary
visas. Families are permitted to share the same living quarters.
Be advised that spouses or children do not have the right
to work or attend school in Thailand or China unless their
documentation states they may do so. SPA does not encourage
bringing young children to China but does not forbid it. If
you are considering travelling with a child, someone from
SPA would be happy to speak with you about your decision.
A boyfriend or girlfriend may also accompany you to Thailand
or China if they are able to obtain the proper visas. Please
understand that the Chinese might not be especially understanding
of non-married couples living together.
