Internship USA & Trainee USA

Types of Jobs Available

Internship or Trainee placements can be in any of the following eight categories:

Arts and Culture
Information Media and Communications
Education (non teaching posts), Social Sciences, Library Science, Counselling and Social Services
Management, Business Commerce and Finance (including Hospitality and Hotel Management)
Health-Related Occupations (with exceptions - see below)
The Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Mathematics and Industrial Occupations
Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing
Public Administration and Law

Placements should consist of practical training directly related to your field of study (INT) or chosen career (PCT). Practical training will vary from position to position, but should include a rotation of departments, if applicable, and a well-rounded exposure to the company/organisation. Although the training takes place in the work place, the program does not allow participants to simply work in the US (i.e. replace a regular employee).

Hospitality and Tourism Internships / Training

  • Given the unique nature of practical training within the fields of hospitality and tourism, the Department of State has included specific requirements for internships/training in these fields.
  • In nearly all cases, participation in these fields will be limited to a maximum of 12 months. The only exception will be for those programs that focus strictly on management skills and could therefore be classified as Business or Management, rather than as Hospitality or Tourism.
  • Rotations / Phases:  To highlight the varied skill sets and functional areas to which an Intern/Trainee will be exposed all hospitality and tourism programs of more than six months in duration need to include at least three different phases.
